Crayon Pop (Korean: 크레용팝; Japanese: クレヨンポップ; sometimes stylized as CRAYON POP) is a South Korean girl group formed by Chrome Entertainment in 2012. Crayon Pop made their official debut in July 2012 with "Saturday Night". As of 2017, Crayon Pop has been on an indefinite hiatus and currently consists of four members: Geummi, Ellin, Choa, and Way.
Crayon Pop has been promoting since January 2012 in Japan and China under the name Hurricane Pop consisting of Serang, Geummi, Ellin, Choa, and Soyul, and released their music video of "Bing Bing" in February; however, Serang parted ways from the group to focus on her career as an actress, later being replaced by Way. The group's name was changed to Crayon Pop as the name was insensitive to Japan's tsunamis. Crayon Pop struggled for popularity and recieved little to almost no commercial success as they held guerilla performances on the streets as a platform.
In 2013, Crayon Pop sought nationwide success during the release of their second single "Bar Bar Bar" becoming notable for its favored choreographed jumping and outfits, later acquiring the group their first win on Music Bank, beating famous groups. In 2014, Crayon Pop released their sixth single "Uh-ee" which was an instantaneous hit, peaking at #8 on Billboard's K-Pop Hot 100.
In 2017, during the discussion of Crayon Pop's impending contract expirations: Geummi, Ellin, Choa, and Way signed non-exclusive agreements with Chrome Entertainment to promote in the future as Crayon Pop. Soyul however, decided to part ways with the group to dedicate her time to parenting.
