ITZY's "Checkmate" Album Surpasses 900k Copies Sold

The group ITZY once again broke its own record.

ITZY released their mini album "CHECKMATE" and their title song "Sneakers" on the 15th of last month. Even after completing their album activities amid favorable reviews from fans at home and abroad, they have achieved remarkable results and are drawing attention.

As of the afternoon of the 18th, ITZY's album "Checkmate" recorded its own highest shipment of about 900,000 copies based on the Gaon Chart. The album surpassed 726,665 pre-orders and achieved 472,394 initial albums (record sales for a week based on the release date) on the Hanteo Chart, the album's highest performance. ITZY proved its popularity by breaking new records through this album.

ITZY has also strengthened its position as a "global popular girl group." They reached number 148 on the U.S. Billboard's main chart "Billboard 200" with their mini album "GUESS WHO" in April last year. Later, in September of the same year, it soared to 11th place with its first full-length album "CRAZY IN LOVE," and finally ranked eighth with its fifth mini-length album "Checkmate" in July this year. In addition, even after the end of the "Sneakers" music broadcast activities, they showed off heir long-running popularity by topping Mnet's "M Countdown" on August 11 and SBS' "Inkigayo" on August 14.

Recently, the number of subscribers to the official YouTube channel also surpassed 7.61 million as of the afternoon of the 18th, confirming its influence at home and abroad. ITZY achieved hundreds of millions of views on YouTube with a total of six music videos, from its debut song "DALLA DALLA" to "ICY," "WANNABE," "Not Shy," and "LOCO." Among them, "Wannabe" and "DALLA DALLA" exceeded 300 million views, making them the only group among the fourth-generation K-pop girl groups to have two "more than 300 million views of music videos." In addition, the "Sneakers" music video surpassed 95.51 million views on YouTube as of the morning of the 19th and raised expectations for adding hundreds of millions of views.

In addition to YouTube, it presents a challenge that actively utilizes shortform content to satisfy the tastes of Generation Z. Their account in the global short video platform TikTok has about 9.5 million followers. It is captivating the public with trendy release promotions, cover dances, and fresh content that shows the charm of five members.

Meanwhile, ITZY is conducting its first world tour "CHECKMATE." Starting with a two-day Seoul concert held on the 6th to 7th, it will hold solo concerts in eight cities in the U.S., including Los Angeles on October 26th (local time), Phoenix on November 1st, Sugar Land on November 3rd, Atlanta on the 5th, Chicago on the 7th, Boston on the 10th, and New York on the 13th. Tickets for the U.S. performance were all sold out when reservations started.
