aespa’s Naevis Reportedly Making Her Solo Debut in March

On January 26th, Korean media outlets reported that NÆVIS (Naevis) is set to debut as a solo artist. According to reports, SM Entertainment is currently developing Naevis into a virtual k-pop singer, intending to make her debut in March.

"We plan to introduce Naevis, who has only appeared in computer graphics (CG) pictures in aespa music videos, as an AI artist. It is expected that the voice of Naevis will be created by analyzing the voices of 12 voice actors, showing off a different kind of music," a representative of SM Entertainment said.

"The global cultural festival 'South by Southwest' to be held in Texas, USA in March will be the debut stage," they added.

The girl group aespa, who debuted in 2020, created a setting where a digital avatar 'Ai' organically connects to each member. Their song lyrics, music videos, and additional content are filled with content that explains the vast worldview, and their avatars have also been introduced several times in 3D graphics. Naevis, in particular, is an aespa AI character who connects the real and digital worlds in the worldview. SM Entertainment believes that the storytelling it has built through aespa will help develop a bond between Naevis and the fandom.

CEO Lee Sung Soo said, "Previous AI artists had unnatural movements or CG. It was difficult to see them as true virtual humans, with real humans acting behind them. For audiences to accept virtual humans as if they are real people, it must be supported by storytelling and music."
