Welcome to another segment of Never Forget Nugu Monday! Today I'll be discussing C-Clown.
Formed by Yedang Entertainment, the six-man group C-Clown made their debut on July 18th, 2012 with the release of their debut mini-album Not Alone. They begin their debut music show promotions with the lead single of their album, 'Solo'.
Solo was a very strong debut song, showcasing C-Clown's adept dancing skills, great visuals, a nice variety of vocal tones and a good musical style. As a matter of fact, as I was writing this, I had 'Solo' on repeat. It's definitely one of my favorite debut songs.
C-Clown's debut mini-album did pretty well on the music charts; peaking at number 14 on the Gaon Charts.
C-Clown quickly followed this up with the release of their second mini-album Young Love on November 15th. Like Not Alone, the album did well on the music charts, peaking at 15 on Gaon. The album's lead single 'Far Away, Young Love' as well as the rest of the album was a change in style and showed off C-Clown's versatility as artists. 'Far Away, Young Love' in particular, was very well received; peaking at 7 on the Gaon Charts. C-Clown was picking up speed.
The pinnacle of C-Clown's success came with the release of their third mini-album Shaking Heart. Released on April 18, 2013, the lead single 'Shaking Heart' didn't chart as well as 'Far Away, Young Love, only peaking at 37, the album itself was C-Clown's highest achievement, reaching number one of the Gaon Chart. Not even a year old and C-CLown were topping the Gaon. Quite the achievement for a rookie group. And once again, the musical style of the group had been seamlessly changed. C-Clown was fast becoming one of the most versatile groups in K-Pop and all before their first anniversary.
C-Clown's final release, fourth mini-album Let's Love was released on July 9th, 2014, peaking at number 9 on the Gaon Charts.
After that, silence.
Leader Rome began displaying odd behavior in April of 2015, deleting all of the pictures on his Instagram, and changing his username to @christianyu as well as leaving ominous messages in his bio that caused fans to worry he was leaving the group or that C-Clown will be disbanded.
Turns out, it was the latter, as Yedang Entertainment announced on October 4th on that year that C-Clown was officially disbanded. They claimed the members had gotten tired of idol life and that they would still be under Yedang and that one member of C-Clown would debut in a new group (Which contradicts what they just said):http://enews24.tving.com/news/article.asp?nsID=891234.
No one knows exactly why C-Clown disbanded. Rome spoke on it somewhat, however, didn't give specific details, as he is not allowed to. http://rowlowupdates.tumblr.com/post/159094741888/some-important-things-christian-has-to-say-to
Many believe this was a DSP Media style screw job. The CEO of Yedang Entertainment, Byun Doo Sub passed away of over-exhaustion the previous year, and new management may have given C-Clown the short end of the stick. Megastar girl group EXID signed an exclusive contract with Yedang a week before the release of C-Clown's fourth mini-album. This was also when EXID was finally rising in popularity with the single 'Up & Down', and it's not hard to believe that Yedang may have chosen to focus entirely on EXID and abandon C-Clown. If Rome's cryptic messages are any indication, C-Clown's disbandment was possibly a bitter one, as he claims fans wouldn't have even heard about it had he not drawn attention with his sudden mysterious behavior.
Also, something to consider is the controversy that Yedang Entertainment's parent company, Yedang Company had been embroiled in after the death of Byun Doo Sub. Doo Sub's brother was facing embezzlement charges as well as charges of fraud. Without Byun Doo Sub's leadership, Yedang seemed worse for ware.
But as the saying goes what's done is done. Regardless of whether it was the best decision or not.
As to where the members of C-Clown are now? Rome or Christian Yu is doing well for himself. He is the chief editor and director of dreamperfectregime. Yes the same DPR as DPR Live who also filmed the video for the world famous 'Eung Freestyle'. He also directed some of Mino and Bobby's solo music videos and is a household is in the Korean music and entertainment industries. He currently has 452,000 followers on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/christianyu_/?hl=en
Maru now goes by the stage name Lee Jae Jun and is now in a hip-hop duo Trei with former Yedang Entertainment trainee Chae Changhyun (Also known as Golden Boi). They recently released music in July and August of this year. He has also been on MIXNINE.
Ray no longer seems to be active as a musician, however, is still working behind the scenes. He is a member of Lee Hong Ki's Hong's Tower production team and has worked on a number of FTIsland songs. He also produced and wrote the lyrics of BTOB song 'Movie'.
Kang Jun has gone on to become a model (A job that fits him perfectly I might add, just look at him). Siwoo has taken up acting. I cannot find any info on what T.K has been up to career-wise, all I know is that he posts selfies. Lots and lots of selfies.
All in all, C-Clown's disbandment definitely was a huge disappointment. They had the visuals, the versatility, a strong vocal line, and good rappers. They had everything it takes to make it and easily could've been one of the brightest stars of their generation. Unfortunately, it seems like their agency failed them. Thankfully all of them seem happy and are doing well for themselves, and in the end, that's what really matters.

I really miss them and hope they are well.
May I request a group for this series? I would like more people to know about BTL since they were so talented and in the span of 2 years only released 1 song, which was their debut song. There's not much else about them, but they were really sweet and charming so it would be nice to maybe see a piece about them.
Thanks :)
