With their debut just four days away, there's only one group I could do for today's Saturday Spotlight! I'll give you a hint, they share a name with a big retail store with a red circle as their symbol; no not K-Mart.
TARGET was set to debut under TNS Entertainment and released a pre-debut MV 'Please Love Me' on September 4th, 2014. Yes, it was that long ago. They also had a short run reality show called Must See Target, but it's a bit hard to watch the episodes as TNS has made their videos private. Original member K. een, unfortunately, had to leave the group due to health issues. TARGET would press on as a seven-member group and planned to release another pre-debut single 'Action'. However, the song was never released; all you can find is a dance practice/ behind the scenes video of sorts for the unreleased song.
TARGET was slated for debut in 2015, however, it never happened. TNS Entertainment went dark, and all of TARGET's SNL accounts were deleted. In all honesty, it was probably for the best. The production quality of 'Please Love Me' was quite low and they likely wouldn't have achieved much success under them.
It wasn't until April of 2016, that the group reemerged, and in August 2106, came the very pleasing news that TARGET had joined JSL Company (Home to idol groups Top Secret and J2KC) and would soon debut!
JSL Company posted up a video of TARGET doing a dance cover of EXO's song 'Monster' in September of 2016, and immediately you could see the huge jump in production value. TARGET would do a few more dance covers including TWICE's 'TT', and 'PPAP'. It wasn't until late 2017, that TARGET would finally make their debut, however. And no, not in Korea. In Japan.
JSL Company decided to debut TARGET in Japan first rather than Korea, and initially, this worried me. Many of these groups both from big and small agencies fell into obscurity due to spending too much time in Japan. Many of these said groups ended up disbanding. I didn't want TARGET suffering the same fate. But luckily, JSL knew what they were doing.
TARGET released a song called 'Tempest' in April of 2017 as a sing-along MV of sorts. On November 24th, 2017, TARGET debuted in Japan with the single ' 熱い思い' which was officially released on December 20th, 2017.
TARGET would spend the month of December on their first tour around Japan. It was during this time, that JSL Company announced that TARGET would finally make their Korean debut in January of 2018!
Since the turn of the new year, JSL Company has started beginning their promotional rounds for TARGET's Korean debut, releasing introduction videos for each of the members. They recently finished up all the introduction videos and released an MV teaser for their debut song 'Awake'! And now, their debut is only 4 days away.
I'm looking forward to this debut. More so than the debut of any rookie group in a very long time. They've got the visuals and the vocals. They've got dancing skills that are better than the majority of nugu groups out there, and JSL Company is putting in the time and effort into the group that they should be. The production quality of their videos is also up there as well. I hope that these guys become the first monster rookies of 2018, and I hope that you will show them your support!
