AOA (an acronym for Ace of Angels) is a South Korean female group formed by FNC Entertainment in 2012. AOA debuted in July 2012 simultaneously promoting as a dance group and a band; other known as AOA BLACK, with the release of the single album "Angel's Story".
AOA sought nationwide success in 2014 during the release of their fifth single album "Miniskirt", which garnered international attention, leading to the group's first music win on Inkigayo. Other notable songs including Short Hair, Like a Cat, Good Luck, Excuse Me, and Bingle Bangle contributed to the group's popularity. In 2015, AOA released their 3rd EP "Heart Attack" becoming a critical success, and one of the most downloaded songs of 2015.
In 2020, bullying scandal allegations sparked globally, leaving the group's future uncertain with an indefinite hiatus. On July 4, 2020, Jimin left the group and retired from the entertainment industry entirely due to the scandal.
On January 1, 2021, FNC Entertainment announced that Yuna's contract had expired and that she would be leaving the company. On October 20, 2022, it was announced that Seolhyun would also be leaving FNC Entertainment. In 2024, Chanmi will also be leaving FNC. With all of the members leaving the company, the group is presumed to have disbanded.
