Kim Dong-Wan, best known by the stage name Dongwan, is a South Korean singer, and actress under Shinhwa Company and Office DH. He is best known as a member of the K-pop boy group, Shinhwa as a vocalist.
Dongwan made his official group debut with Shinhwa on March 24th, 1998 under SM Entertainment. However, he and the group left the company in July 2003. In addition to Dongwan's vocal position, he also wrote, composed, and arranged a song on the album titled, 'Set Free'.
On July 5th, 2007, Dongwan released his debut solo album, 'Kimdongwan' which featured collaborations with his fellow members of Shinhwa including Andy, rapping in the song "Loving Summer", Shin Hye-Sung, singing a duet with Dongwan in "The One Left Alone", and Eric, rapping in "My Love".
In November 2008, Dongwan enlisted for mandatory military service at an army training camp in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do. He was discharged on December 17th, 2010 serving 24 months as an administrative worker at the Seodamun-gu District Office. After Shinhwa's hiatus due to mandatory military enlistment, Dongwan reunited with the members in March 2012, under the management company, 'Shinhwa Company'. He released his tenth album with the group on March 23rd, 'The Return'.
In 2006, he was one of the several Korean celebrities praised by the Japanese Media for giving generous donations for food victims. Dongwan is also known for his generous actions. In April 2015, after an earthquake in Nepal, it was reported that Dongwan has donated $33,660 towards the relief fund.
