Introduction

Lee Gai (이가이) is a South Korean singer. She debuted in 1988 as a member of the trio Setorae under her real name Lee Hee-jung (이희정). After the group's disbandment in 1989 she redebuted in a duo named Tam Tam (탐탐) in 1991, with one of the previous Setorae members. After the duo fell apart, underground producer Yoon Deungryong pitied her talent and so decided to debut her under his label, Deungryong Planning (later DR Music) with the name Lee Jisoo in 1993.

After releasing 2 full albums, she could not manage to gain much attention with her solo work either. Yoon added her to the K-Pop girl group Baby V.O.X in 1998 under the name Lee Gai when he thought she would fit their new girl band concept as she had a good voice and composing experience. The concept was later changed to fit a Teen Pop audience.

Unfortunately, she had been lying about her age since her solo debut, where she marked her age down by one year which was a common practice for female singers at the time. When promoting with Baby V.O.X, Lee Gai was supposedly 10 years younger, which was suspicious considering her aged looks on top of her bad dance skills. When the fans of Baby V.O.X and the general public found out she was indeed a 30-year old, Lee Gai left the group and retired from the industry.
