JYP Entertainment Announce Strong Legal Action Against Defamation and Insults Towards TWICE's Nayeon

TWICE's Nayeon won a lawsuit against A, who claimed a loan repayment of 600 million won.

According to the legal community on the 19th, the Seoul Eastern District Court's 13th Civil Affairs Department ruled against the plaintiff in a loan lawsuit filed by Nayeon's mother's former lover A against Nayeon and Nayeon's mother. The court said, "It is true that A has transferred about 600 million won to Nayeon for 12 years, but it cannot be referred to as a loan."

In January last year, A filed a lawsuit against Nayeon and Nayeon's mother. A said in the complaint, "At the request of Nayeon's mother, I lent necessary funds such as living expenses. Nayeon, a trainee at a famous entertainment agency, debuted as a singer and decided to pay back the loan," he claimed.

However, the court ruled, "Considering that the name of the money transaction was monthly rent, telecommunication expenses, loans, and tuition, it can be seen that it was paid for Nayeon's living expenses," adding, "Considering that Nayeon's mother was in a relationship with A at the time, it is difficult to conclude that it was a loan." They added, "A claims to the effect that they "expect" Nayeon to repay the money back when she debuts as a singer, so it is difficult to regard all the payments as loans."

Meanwhile, when the results of the lawsuit were known to the outside world on the 19th, Nayeon's agency JYP Entertainment said, "The ruling has already been finalized and closed, and we have nothing to say about it because it has nothing to do with the artist's activities."

"However, we will take stern legal action against issues that damage artists' reputation or insult them through speculative articles," they said.
