Alleged Hair of Jang Wonyoung Gets Put Up for Auction in China

On February 27th, Chinese media portal Media8 revealed that alleged strands of Jang Wonyoung's hair has been put up for auction by a fan through an online second-hand trading platform.

The fan claimed that they personally obtained Jang Wonyoung's hair at a concert hall and boldly challenged people to have its DNA checked for authenticity.

Despite the lack of proof that the strands of hair belong to the IVE member, it didn't stop potential buyers from bidding. At the starting price of 99,999 yuan (about 18.74 million won or 14,000 USD as of writing), the bidding price for Jang Wonyoung's alleged hair has rose up to 103,662 yuan (about 19.15 million won or 14,300 USD). The price is expected to increase until the auction ends on March 2nd.

As the auction drew attention, it sparked a controversy, with netizens calling out the seller for invading Jang Wonyoung's privacy. Many also expressed doubts over whether the strands of hair truly belong to the idol.

Meanwhile, the controversial auction has also reached South Korean online communities. Netizens commented:

  • Are they crazy?
  • This makes me swear.
  • Wow, this is really creepy.
  • How can you even pull out an idol's hair during a concert? ㅋㅋㅋ
  • Is this serious?
  • What are you even going to do with it?
  • Just why????
  • All I have to do is pull my hair out and claim it belongs to Jang Wonyoung.
