In the first round, the 50 contestants were split into 25 one-on-one matches and they performed one song each. After the two contestants in a match finished performing, each of the six judges voted for the contestant they wanted to advance to the next round. The contestant who received more votes won and passed the round instantly. The contestant who lost became an elimination candidate. If there was a tie, then both contestants became elimination candidates.
