HYBE and BTS Expect That The Group Will Be Able To Promote As 7 Again In 2025
HYBE, the agency, announced on the 17th that "BTS has begun concrete preparations to fulfill its military service obligations," and announced BTS's future activities.
"BTS member Jin will apply for the cancellation of the postponement of enlistment at the end of October 2022 and follow the military service related procedures of the Military Manpower Administration," the agency said. "Other members will also perform their military service sequentially according to their plans." Big Hit Music also said in a statement distributed on Weverse and SNS, "BTS will focus on individual activities for the time being in line with each member's military service plan," adding, "We and the members are hoping for a complete BTS in 2025."
Jin, who was born in 1992, turned 30 years old, had postponed his enlistment until the end of this year after being recommended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to postpone his enlistment under the revised Military Service Act in 2020.
The current Military Service Act stipulates that a person with special skills in the arts and sports field prescribed by Presidential Decree and recommended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism can be incorporated into art and sports personnel. However, the Enforcement Decree of the Military Service Act does not include "popular culture" as a specialty in the arts and sports fields, raising the issue of equity for popular cultural artists who promote national prestige.
There were voices in the pop culture community that the alternative service for BTS should be allowed, but the National Assembly's discussion was sluggish as public opinion was clearly divided between pros and cons.
Amid the controversy over his military service, Jin seems to have canceled the postponement of his enlistment and expressed his intention to join the military. On the other hand, some analysts say that the withdrawal of the postponement of the enlistment, which is two months away, is a response that is conscious of public opinion.
Jin will begin active service as soon as he receives a notice of enlistment. There is also a possibility that he will join the military as early as this year.
"This is the last concert we are scheduled for," BTS said at his solo concert "Yet To Come in Busan" held at Busan Asiad Main Stadium on the 15th, "This moment cannot last forever, but we have another tomorrow."
The seven-member group BTS is set to join the military in turn, led by Jin, born in 1992, Suga and RM, born in 1994, Jimin and V, born in 1995, and Jungkook born in 1997.
