TXT's Soobin, NCT's Taeyong, ATEEZ's Mingi, and SEVENTEEN's Woozi became the subject of criticism after a Korean netizen compiled sets of screenshots on a local online forum, pointing out how they all consumed the controversial manga-based animation "Made in Abyss." The compilation has since been translated and shared by multiple media outlets, making the idols trend across different platforms.
Many netizens voiced out their disappointment and disgust, particularly because of the depiction of torture and nudity involving characters with childlike appearances in both the anime and manga.
jennie, all of blackpink fr, irene, many female idols have been smacked for years over having feminist views or just existing tbh but taeyong, woozi, soobin and whoever else are being protected? and when we say yall are misogynistic weirdos yall act like we made it up pic.twitter.com/FexRSCNljw

Meanwhile, fans were quick to defend the idols, pointing out mistranslations about the idols' statements and clearing out that they only watched it and never really recommended the show. In addition, others also pointed out that the anime is heavily censored unlike the manga.
1️⃣ Soobin did not recommend the anime.

He pointed out that it is a dark and provocative anime but he enjoyed the plot of season 2 only
The Korean version also has cut out some of those scenes
2️⃣ “Made in Abyss” is a very popular & highly rated anime within anime fans. Lots of… pic.twitter.com/PIewvZJUA3
I'm sorry but let me get this straight. People are mad at this guy... because he watched Made In Abyss. That's it. One of the most popular and widely regarded anime of 2017. He didn't even mention his opinion on it, it was just part of a list of anime he watched recently. https://t.co/Z2IDhMlWVD

this is regarding Mingi. based off of JUST the anime, which is what he recommended, the anime is heavily based on world building, and the plot is not based around the disturbing themes it contains. i highlighted the episodes that do contain some scenes, but as far as pic.twitter.com/c2ovyoGWKT

Just adding on to this for anyone who has never watched Made in Abyss. The show's plot never focused on torturing kids or whatever people say it to be. It's an ADVENTURE series with a world that's worked on by former Studio Ghibli background artists. The plot centers this world. https://t.co/rmJdxGe03i pic.twitter.com/DwhJ8Oab1G

made in abyss is a super popular and actually HIGHLY critically acclaimed show y’all cannot be acting like it’s the end of the world because a show has dark themes how many times do we have to have this talk https://t.co/w23vB3UKVn pic.twitter.com/sn4tmKlwil
