Police Will Summon BTS's Suga Over DUI Case

Police Will Summon BTS's Suga Over DUI Case

Suga of BTS will be questioned by police.

According to the police on the 11th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul will summon Suga soon to investigate how much he drank.

Suga was found drunk driving an electric scooter in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on the 6th and fell down. At that time, Suga was drunk and only tested for alcohol before returning home. Later, he was booked at the Yongsan Police Station on charges of drunk driving on the 7th, and accordingly, he will officially attend and be investigated. It is known that Suga has not yet received a request from the police as the date of attendance needs to be adjusted.

In particular, public criticism is mounting as it was revealed that the response was a lie after the incident. On the day of the news, his agency Big Hit Music and Suga apologized for driving an "electric kickboard" after drinking through their official position, but it was found that it was a scooter, not a kickboard, that Suga drove.

Unlike electric kickboards, electric scooters are vehicles under the Road Traffic Act and are subject to criminal punishment in addition to the disposition of revocation of licenses and fines stated in the statement. As the weight of the punishment changes, suspicions have been raised that it was aiming to "reduce the severity."

Big Hit Music explained, "There was no intention of reducing the issue at all," but it has not gained trust since it was revealed that Suga's blood alcohol level was much higher than they originally announced.

Earlier, it was reported that Suga's blood alcohol level at the time of the incident was at the level of revocation of his license (0.08 percent or more), and Suga also told police that he drove for a while after drinking a glass of beer. However, it was confirmed that Suga's blood alcohol level was 0.227 percent, far exceeding this level. Under the current law, anyone with a blood alcohol level of 0.2% or higher can be sentenced to up to two to five years in prison or fined 10 million to 20 million won.

Criticism is spreading as suspicions of reducing the incident have been added to the drunk scooter driving. As the entertainment industry is particularly sensitive due to the constant drunk driving incident and BTS is active on the global stage, critics point out that "Leave so you don't harm the team," "The crime of deceiving the public is worse," and more. In addition, there are criticisms with the aim of punishing celebrities for drunk driving.

However, there are also advocacy differences, such as, "It seems that there is a lot of anger criticism," and, "It is not a hit-and-run for drunk driving, and we should refrain from criticizing too harshly."
