Latto Referring to K-pop Fandoms As “Cults” After Working With BTS’ Jungkook Left Netizens Extremely Disappointed: “Why Call Us a Cult?”

Latto Referring to K-pop Fandoms As “Cults” After Working With BTS’ Jungkook Left Netizens Extremely Disappointed: “Why Call Us a Cult?”

Recently, BTS' Jungkook made his highly anticipated solo debut with "Seven," featuring Latto. The song quickly became a hit, garnering widespread attention from fans all over the world.

However, on July 20th, Latto's interview with Billboard ahead of her upcoming album "Sugar Honey Iced Tea", set to release in August, sparked major backlash.

In the interview, Latto remarked on her experience entering the world of K-pop, saying, "They got a real cult following," referring to the surge in engagement on her posts with BTS' Jungkook. This statement did not sit well with many fans, who felt that the term "cult" carried negative connotations and undermined their genuine passion and dedication for their favorite idols.

"Stepping into K-Pop was very different for me. I was like, “Oh, these people running low-key cults! They do not play.” I’m posting regular pictures on Instagram, then I post the picture with JK — Jungkook — I’m seeing my comments, likes, everything tripling. They got a real cult following. That sh-t is crazy. And then performing with him in New York and seeing the fan base in person, that sh-t was different. I’m tryna get like that."

While Latto seems to have meant well with her statement, "I'm tryna get like that", indicating that the support felt surreal to her and expressing her desire to receive similar backing, K-pop fans were still disappointed with her use of the word "cult."
