Recently, BTS' Jungkook made his highly anticipated solo debut with "Seven," featuring Latto. The song quickly became a hit, garnering widespread attention from fans all over the world.
However, on July 20th, Latto's interview with Billboard ahead of her upcoming album "Sugar Honey Iced Tea", set to release in August, sparked major backlash.

🗣:"Stepping into K-pop was very different for me. I was like, "Oh, these people running low-key cults! They do not play." I’m posting regular pictures on Instagram, then I post the picture with JK — Jungkook + pic.twitter.com/M9OzuGZmwa
In the interview, Latto remarked on her experience entering the world of K-pop, saying, "They got a real cult following," referring to the surge in engagement on her posts with BTS' Jungkook. This statement did not sit well with many fans, who felt that the term "cult" carried negative connotations and undermined their genuine passion and dedication for their favorite idols.
"Stepping into K-Pop was very different for me. I was like, “Oh, these people running low-key cults! They do not play.” I’m posting regular pictures on Instagram, then I post the picture with JK — Jungkook — I’m seeing my comments, likes, everything tripling. They got a real cult following. That sh-t is crazy. And then performing with him in New York and seeing the fan base in person, that sh-t was different. I’m tryna get like that."
While Latto seems to have meant well with her statement, "I'm tryna get like that", indicating that the support felt surreal to her and expressing her desire to receive similar backing, K-pop fans were still disappointed with her use of the word "cult."
People saying Latto don’t mean it “that way” but she should’ve said something along the lines of “I’m impressed Jungkook fans are so hardworking and dedicated” but instead she call us a cult and saying we are overreacting. It’s crazy. https://t.co/slzOhWNmTL

We are normal fans who support who we like and deemed a cult. When others do it it’s normal. I am salty at this description whenever it is bestowed upon us. Like we JUST fans like anyone else at the end of the day. Why call us a cult? @Latto https://t.co/Yz0hnpMR9v

None of this change the fact that seven is her career first biggest hit and that's cause of "cult" that is there for jungkook not latto . Your opinion isn't the validation seven needs lol

Latto wants the kind of cult following that will ignore these kinds of twts and she knows she can get that from the portion of kpop fans that'll give engagement to anyone involved with BT5. https://t.co/XSkU05pQ0g pic.twitter.com/2zUTqqiHEa
