“Why Are You Comparing Her to Nayeon?” – Korean Netizens Discuss TWICE’s Jihyo and Nayeon’s Solo and the Strategies Used by JYP Entertainment

After the success of Nayeon as the first to get a solo debut in TWICE with "POP!," Jihyo debuted solo next with "Killin' Me Good."

As Jihyo and Nayeon have contrasting images, they pursued different concepts wherein Nayeon had a bright and refreshing solo while Jihyo proceeded with an elegant and sophisticated concept.

Korean netizens then can't help but compare the support that both solos got, citing the reasons why Nayeon's solo got more recognition from the general public, they commented:

  • She simply isn't the type to go solo.
  • Isn't it natural to invest more in the person who is likely to sell more from a business standpoint?
  • Jihyo has an image of an old style of singing, but I don't like taking it as it is. If the singing method or things like this were changed and it came out sophisticated as a pop trend song these days, I think it would have attracted more fans from all over the world, but it was a pity that it was a song that only people who originally liked it would like.
  • However, it seems that 70-80% of Jihyo's personal say has gone in. She didn't show what she's good at, but she looks so happy right now, and if you watched her on Lee Mujin Service, you'd understand that she's the type to insist on the music genre that she likes. It seems like she did what she wanted, so don't compare her to Nayeon.
  • Nayeon came up as a challenge, but the reaction wasn't good from the beginning.
  • Why are you comparing her to Nayeon?
  • Released all those albums, went to concerts, took care of the members for over 8 years, did a good job, led the team, and made so much money, what would it do if the company just treated it like shit? Seriously, why aren’t you even doing a YouTube promo for a music video like everyone else does?
  • I logged in because I wanted to comment. Personally, I really like Twice's new songs (there is a feeling that they are getting more and more sophisticated and developing). I'm a normal person who really likes Twice, but Jihyo looked like a drinker on TV, maybe that's why her face doesn't have a bit of vitality. When people like alcohol, their vitality disappears. Maybe it's because she likes to drink and eat, but she looks more than healthy. She looks a bit drunk and the concept and clothes are unfashionable. Among Twice's songs, I was surprised by Jihyo's singing ability after listening to Queen of Hearts. I don't think Jihyo doesn't have star quality. I hope Jihyo sees this comment, I believe that if it's a different style of makeup, Jihyo has star quality. Recently, Jihyo was pretty when she lost a lot of weight on Talk That Talk.
  • What's the difference between the music video quality? Seriously... Nayeon's music video is bright, so they turned it into two sets, but Jihyo went dark to match the song. Excluding the promo for the number of views in the music video, Jihyo's promo was longer, and Jihyo even returned the American promo. As you know, all of her activities were tied up for 8 years. They spent the same amount of money, but the method is different
  • Originally, if you debut as a solo in a girl group, aren’t there at most two people doing well? Blackpink is a special case, but only Taeyeon did well with SNSD and Sunmi did well in Wonder Girls. It would be difficult for TWICE to be as successful as Nayeon even if other members came out instead of Jihyo. Why is she persecuted?
  • It's just that Jihyo herself is a bit far from the trend, so these days, cool beauty is popular, but Jihyo has a voluptuous body shape that resembles the sea and has a blazing hot face. It would have been better to save it and come out with sticky sexy Latin pop like Havana in midsummer that is choreographed intensely and go to South America to shoot.
