"Why Are They Targeting IU?" — Korean Netizens Baffled Over the Plagiarism and Spy Accusations Against IU

"Why Are They Targeting IU?" — Korean Netizens Baffled Over the Plagiarism and Spy Accusations Against IU

Recently, the Korean music industry was surprised by reports about a regular citizen who went to the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul and personally accused IU of violating the copyright law. The citizen pointed out that "The Red Shoes," "Pitiful," "Celebrity," "Boo," Good Day," "Bbibbi" were plagiarized from domestic and foreign artists.

Besides this accusation, malicious handouts containing absurd rumors, such as IU being a North Korean spy, were found in various places in South Korea, even on online portals.

As IU continues to become a hot topic among various Korean media outlets, composers and even music critics have come forward to defend the singer against the accusations.

Most of the Korean netizens also voiced out sentiments, mainly questioning the sudden emegernce of such accusations. They commented:
  • Seriously. I'm really curious why he's doing this to IU.
  • Lawyers who accepted the accusation case are also the problem. Shouldn’t lawyers have a conscience?
  • I agree that it's a serious situation. Why are they targeting IU? Will they only target IU? Is there any guarantee that there will be no second or third party like that? You can't just leave this alone. You have to punish them properly.
  • What does mentally ill people have against IU?
  • Who are these lawyers? If this works, virtually all singers can be accused.
  • This reminds me of Tajinyo. (Tajinyo was a movement composed of individuals who targeted Epik High's Tablo, accusing him of committing academic fraud. Tablo was able to clear his name and some of the perpetrators were punished)
  • IU, we're cheering for you.
  • This wouldn't have been a big deal if the reporters and lawyers ignored the accusations of a man who is clearly mentally ill.
  • A non-singer accused singer IU of plagiarizing six songs, including songs that IU didn't even compose.
  • IU must be really tired....
  • This is as crazy as Tajinyo.
  • I'm not a fan of IU but I sympathize with her. They're so disillusioned. I hope you get them all back for this.
  • IU is truly pitiful. Even if she sues them, I don't think they will ever stop.
  • Someone also accused her of being a North Korean spy. What the hell is wrong with them?
  • Why are you doing this to IU? I can only think of it as a huge explosion..Leave IU alone
  • If you're going to accuse a composer of plagiarism, at least accuse the right composer.
  • What did IU ever do to them? There are so many psychopaths.
  • There are really too many mean people in the world.. Go IU ㅠㅠ
  • The accuser is giving me goosebumps. I'm cheering for IU unconditionally.
  • I think it's really dangerous to deliberately target and accuse like that.
  • This is getting really scary. Please stop bullying IU.
  • IU's antis are so persistent and creepy like the real Tajinyo.
  • IU fighting!
