Jessica's Fashion Brand Explains Their Position Over The Unpaid Rent
Blanc & Eclare said in an official statement on the 25th, "When the restaurant industry was in the midst of COVID-19, we asked the building owner to understand if we could temporarily delay the rent."
"We were preparing for smooth operation, hoping to solve the elevator problem, but the owner of the building stopped the elevator operation and even closed the main entrance after 10 p.m.," they said. "We had to guide customers through the clothing store on the first floor that closed after 8 p.m. for more than six months."
Blanc & Eclare said, "Since early April, we have no choice but to decide to suspend business and terminate the lease," adding, "On the other hand, the owner of the building has been ignoring the answer for more than three months."
Earlier, the Seoul Central District Court drew attention by conducting forced extradition against Blanc & Eclare, a brand launched by Jessica and Tyler Kwon.
Blanc & Eclair, where Jessica has served as the chief designer, has Tyler Kwon registered as the CEO, and it was established in 2014 and continued to launch sunglasses, clothing, and cosmetics, and attracted attention by opening a flagship store in Korea.
In December 2021, they were sued by the owner of a building in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul for overdue rent. The two sides signed a lease in September 2020, but they appear to have filed the lawsuit for overdue monthly rent since August 2021. The owner of the building filed a lawsuit to pay the overdue rent along with the building's name, and the court later concluded in June 2022 that Blanc & Eclare's overdue rent would actually go into execution, but they didn't pay the rent again.
