Earlier this week, Cube Entertainment announced the departure of Pentagon's Yeo One, Yan An, Yuto, Kino, and Wooseok from the agency due to the expiration of their seven-year exclusive contacts. Following this, all eyes turned to Pentagon's senior labelmate, BTOB, whose contracts are also set to end this year.
BTOB made their official debut in 2012 under Cube Entertainment and went on to be known as one of the best vocal groups in Kpop, with each members also excelling in various fields within and outside of the entertainment industry. In 2018, the members renewed their exclusive contracts with the agency. Fast forward to August 2023, Korean media outlets reported that BTOB's contracts are set to expire again—which was later confirmed by Cube Entertainment through an announcement that said, "It is true that the time has come to renew our contract with BTOB. Both our company and the members are discussing carefully in a positive direction."
Recently, on a South Korean online community board, there were rumors that after all the discussions, Cube Entertainment and the BTOB members' contract renewal eventually failed.
The rumors ended up catching the attention of netizens, who expressed nothing but support to the boy group. They commented:
- Cube is now ruined. They only have (G)I-DLE now.
- Let's set up a BTOB company.
- All they have to do is continue group activities.
- Leave Cube but don't disband.
- Is Yook Sungjae going to an acting agency then? I want to see him act more often.
- It's really hard if it's contract renewal.
- I don't really like anything about Cube. But after hearing this (the rumors), I feel like something inside me is breaking. I want them to do group activities, but I also want them to be more greedy and go to a good company where they can work to their heart's content.... I don't know me either.
- But if they leave Cube, I feel like Cube won't let them use their name again, and I don't like that. It would be sad if they won't be able to use their name again.
- The rumors didn't say anything about disbanding. Are they going to set up their own agency?
- It would be nice if they go to Highlight's agency.
- It's a waste to rot in Cube for more than 12 years. I hope everyone goes to a good place.
- (G)I-DLE will be left. They will have to suffer a bit more.
- Renewing a contract is difficult for any team, so it would be even more surprising if the contract was renewed. Seo Eunkwang is likely to remain as he is an executive director, some will also stay while others will go.
- Please be BTOB for the rest of your life.
