PENTAGON (Korean: 펜타곤; Japanese: ペンタゴン) is a boy group under Cube Entertainment that consists of nine members. They were formed through a reality competition show called "Pentagon Maker" and officially debuted on October 10, 2016, with their self-titled mini-album.
In December 2015, Cube Entertainment announced that a new boy group would be formed in the first half of 2016. On April 26, 2016, the group released their teaser video. Prior to their debut, Mnet's reality survival show, "Pentagon Maker," was held to determine the final lineup. Three members, E'Dawn, Shinwon, and Yan An, were eliminated, while the remaining members went on to debut.
On October 10, 2016, PENTAGON officially debuted with ten members, including the three eliminated members, E'Dawn, Shinwon, and Yan An. They released their first Korean EP, "Pentagon," which had seven tracks, including the lead single "Gorilla."
Their sixth Korean EP, "Positive," was released on April 2, 2018, featuring six tracks, including the lead single "Shine." The song gained popularity due to its unique melody and powerful choreography. Since its release, the song has been ranking high on various music charts, reaching a peak position of 16.
In August 2018, Hyuna announced her relationship with E'Dawn. In September 2018, Cube Entertainment announced that they would be terminating their contracts, citing that they could not "maintain trust" with them. On November 14, Cube Entertainment officially confirmed E'Dawn's departure from the group and company.
PENTAGON participated in Mnet's reality television competition "Road to Kingdom," which aired from April to June 2020.
On October 9, 2023, Cube Entertainment announced that the contracts of members Yeo One, Yan An, Yuto, Kino, and Wooseok had expired, and they decided not to renew them, while the other four members had renewed their contracts. However, all members will remain in PENTAGON, and the group has hinted that they will not disband.
