aespa's Winter Undergoes Pneumothorax Surgery, SM Entertainment Confirms
On the 12th, SM Entertainment, the agency, said, "aespa's Winter is recovering from recent pneumothorax surgery. As the disease is prone to recurrence, the decision was made after sufficient discussion as a preemptive measure based on the opinions of the medical staff."
The company also said, “Future schedules will be based on Winter's recovery process as the top priority.”
Winter underwent pneumothorax surgery at a large hospital in Seoul on the 11th. After recovery, they plan to carry out their schedules including comeback and world tour.
Pneumothorax is a disease in which air or gas accumulates in the pleural space (a closed space within two layers of the pleura) due to a hole in the lung corresponding to an air sac, which causes air to leak or enter. It mainly occurs in thin men, but lung disease and genetic factors are also known to be causes.
Typical symptoms of pneumothorax are chest pain and shortness of breath. Pain occurs suddenly, but usually disappears within 24 hours. The type of pain varies from person to person, but it usually feels like a sharp stabbing sensation in the back or chest.
If suspicious symptoms persist, medical attention is required. In particular, the control of pneumothorax is considered more important because pneumothorax recurs frequently. There is no special prevention method, but if you smoke, the chance of recurrence increases, so quitting smoking is a rule. Additionally, the recurrence rate can be reduced through surgery.
Get well soon, Winter!
