Dispatch Calls Out Min Heejin's Hypocrisy + Korean Netizens React

On April 24th, Dispatch decided to clear the air about NewJeans' origins, mainly that they were originally all Source Music trainees, after Min Heejin kept on saying that she raised and chose the members, going as far as calling herself the "mother" of the group.

Minji joined Source Music in 2017. Hani entered in 2019. She was accepted in a global audition hosted by Big Hit Music and Source Music.

Haerin and Danielle signed a trainee contract for 2020. The last member was Hyein, and she was discovered online. She passed the audition and signed with Source Music.

Minji, Hani, Haerin, Danielle, and Hyein were the resources of Source Music by CEO So Sung-jin. They trained at Source Music until the second half of 2021.

Meanwhile, Min Heejin moved to HYBE in 2019. Her role was to direct the brand for the brand's general manager CBO. During a press release by HYBE at that time, they were planning to debut a new girl group in Source Music and Min Heejin was going to be part of this process, however, she wanted to be head of her own label, which is the reason HYBE set up ADOR.

Min Heejin chose trainees from Source Music. Minji, Hani, Haerin, Danielle, and Hyein were transferred to ADOR, and she paid the training expenses to Source Music.

Dispatch called her out on her "Mother of NewJeans" name, saying that the CEO of Source Music, So Sungjin, trained the members for at least three years. They gave her credit for the Y2K sensibility in a modern way and completed the Korean music together with the songwriters.

However, she was rewared too, HYBE's board of directors allowed her to buy ADOR's shares at a low prince in the first quarter of 2023, instead of stock options, avoiding a 45% tax. This way, Min Heejin held 18% of ADOR's shares, while HYBE's shares became 80%.

In 2022, ADOR was in the red, sales amounted to 18.6 billion won (14.6 million U.S. dollars) and operating loss amounted to 4 billion won (4 million dollars).

Korean netizens reacted to the Dispatch article in an online community site with over 170 comments saying:

  • You said Hyein wasn't, but Hyein was an original Source Music trainee
  • Min Heejin is the only one that doesn't know, but she took everything from Source Musicㅋㅋ where is her conscience
  • Isn't So Sungjin amazing?
  • Oh, Min Heejin... You have no conscience
  • Min Heejin chose trainees from Source Music. Minji, Hani, Haerin, Danielle, and Hyein were transferred.
  • Where's your conscience, thiefㅜ
  • Without Source Music, the members wouldn't be there
  • During You Quiz on the Block she acted like she raised the members herself
  • Source Music's training team, you worked hard
  • 🤔
  • What is this, she got HYBE's resources from the beginningㅋㅋㅋㅋ
  • She was always saying mother this, mother that, but in the end she picked all of it from HYBE
  • Source Music, I feel sorry for you
  • Capital from HYBE, trainees from HYBE
