Artist Spotlight: Interview with PRIMROSE

After their debut last January 2023, the K-pop girl group PRIMROSE released hit after hit with their first two comebacks, and right now they are gearing up to steal the hearts of their fans and the public once again with their new comeback ‘Steal Heart’ on November 14th!

Thankfully, we got the chance to get to know the very lovely and captivating members of the group namely RAINIE, NAHYUN, RUBY, and HAYUN even more!

RAINIE: Hello!! It’s Rainie of PRIMROSE

NAHYUN: Hello, dear readers. I'm Nahyun from Primrose:) We're so excited to share our story with you!

RUBY: Hi, this is Ruby of PRIMROSE!

HAYUN: Hello, this is your maknae Hayun!

PRIMROSE had a comeback earlier this June as well with ‘Freyja’ which really established the group’s versatility and ability to do concepts very well! The group talks candidly about what they have been up to in the months between they wrapped up their ‘Freyja’ promotions and their upcoming comeback.

HAYUN: After performing in Sweden and Norway, we also worked on promotions in Taiwan, and are now gearing up for another comeback!

NAHYUN: It's been a long time since I've been able to finish my activities, meet my fans in the Nordics and Taiwan, and then prepare for our next comeback. I've been working really hard to get ready for my next comeback, and thanks to my fans, I've been able to stay strong.

RAINIE: We've been really busy since 'Freyja'! We've been performing overseas, gaining a lot of experience, and enjoying the support of our fans.

RUBY: After the Nordics and Taiwan, we're ready to make a comeback and make it even better!

On the other hand, oftentimes we only see our favorite K-pop idols when they are shining bright on stage and we rarely get to see the struggles behind being K-pop idols. PRIMROSE gets emotional when talking about both the most fulfilling part and challenging part of being K-pop idols.

RAINIE: It makes us happy whenever our fans give us their heartfelt support on stage and off. Thank you so much for supporting us every step of the way! I feel a great sense of accomplishment when fans tell me that I have given them courage and comfort. It's the most rewarding feeling to know that my music and performances can mean something to someone. However, it's also a little heartbreaking when I can't fully communicate with my fans overseas due to the language barrier, so I've been working hard to learn languages lately.

NAHYUN: When I'm on stage and I see the looks on the audience's faces, it makes me happy because I feel like we're filling the stage together. Being able to directly interact with my fans and add a little happiness to their day is the most rewarding part of my job, and these precious moments give me a lot of strength. However, being an idol means that I have to take care of my health and appearance all the time, especially dieting, but I'm working hard to give back to them in a better way!

RUBY: When our fans cheer us on and sing along to our songs, it makes me feel like I have to work harder to make them happy, and it also makes me feel like I have to work harder to make them happy.The moments of happiness on stage with the fans are my biggest accomplishment, especially when I see them smiling and looking at us, it gives me chills. But it's also a challenge because you have to take care of yourself. You have to be physically and mentally ready at all times.

HAYUN: I find it interesting to see how different songs will be interpreted. It's really rewarding to see the fans react to the interpretations.As an idol, I'm most proud when I give my best performance to my fans on stage, especially when I get cheers from them saying, “You're amazing, you're the best,” and it gives me a great feeling. I think the most challenging part is trying different songs every time and feeling that it's not easy, but I try to grow every time through these challenges.

As performers, it seems like PRIMROSE appreciates and is thankful when the fans reciprocate the energy that they give in their performances the most.

So this November 14th, PRIMROSE is coming back to perform and showcase their new comeback ‘Steal Heart’ for their fans! Here’s what we can look forward to for this comeback! According to the members, we can expect more tracks in this album compared to their previous releases and they will be tackling a more “crime thriller” concept this time around! It also seems like the members are very fond of all of the tracks, but most especially ‘Steal Heart’ and ‘Feel It’!

RAINIE: We love every song on this album, and we're excited to try out new concepts, so we're ready to say hello with a new look, so stay tuned!

NAHYUN: We're excited to show you the new look of Primrose.This new song is bright and chic, and I think it will be a great opportunity to expand our musical vibes. :)

RUBY: The vibes we are showing this time are very different from the colors we have shown so far, so I think fans are looking forward to it a lot.I think we were able to try new challenges through this comeback, and we want to try various challenges like this in the future.

HAYUN: Our album 'Steal Heart' is based on the concept of a heist movie and is an album with catchy hooks that you won't get tired of listening to over and over again! It contains a lot of professional and cool aspects of our members, so please give it a lot of love~!

Now let’s get more personal with PRIMROSE! On stage, we are used to seeing them give charismatic performances but in their personal lives all of the members seem to be on the shier side.

Since everybody is curious how the individual members are behind the microphones and cameras, here are self-descriptions from PRIMROSE themselves!

RAINIE: I love being around people and I love my alone time. I'm usually pretty chill, but when I'm with my friends, I'm very energetic!

NAHYUN: I really enjoy being alone, and I like to go for walks, watch movies, go to cafes alone, read books, and spend time in little ways.I think my cheerful personality is brought out by the members around me. I think if I was alone without them, I would probably be really quiet and not interacting with people much.

RUBY: As a human being, Jiwon Hur is very shy and guarded. So my relationships are usually deep and narrow, and I'm not good at reaching out, so I'm always grateful for those who reach out to me first.

HAYUN: I'm actually a pretty shy person, and the human Ha Seyun, not Primrose Seyun Ha, is embarrassed to show me off to anyone.

When asked how they spend their “Me Time”, the girls seem to enjoy using their time being with themselves or meeting up with their group of friends. Here’s how they described how they spend their time for leisure and hobbies:

RAINIE: I'm always on the lookout for good restaurants. It's great for taking pictures and looking at pretty scenery.

NAHYUN: I go out to eat, work out, and catch up with friends I don't see often, and spend time with people I know. I don't have any big plans, but I tend to find happiness in the small things.

RUBY: I feel like I'm catching up with friends and acquaintances I haven't seen in a while! I don't really like to spend time alone, so I'm always with people unless I'm shopping.

HAYUN: I don't get out of bed, and I'm sure you all know that, and the only time I go out is to see a close friend.

Now, all of our idols have idols of their own idols too, ones that inspired them to be the artists that they are today. For PRIMROSE, these are the artists that they look up to or they want to collaborate with in the future.

RAINIE: I want to be an artist with a unique personality and presence on stage, like BLACKPINK, who can handle various concepts and deliver intense performances! Also, I've always looked up to Girls' Generation, and when I see them shine on stage, I'm in awe. If I ever get the chance, I'd love to be on stage with them or do a challenge shoot with them!

NAHYUN: I have so many favorite artist predecessors. I think all the artists, both current and international are always inspiring and motivating me. I really like the songs of The Rose. Even if we don't work together, I would love to see them perform at least once.

RUBY: G-dragon was the one who made me decide that I wanted to be a singer when I was younger, so I still feel like that whenever I’m watching his performances. It awakens my childhood feelings and memories. I admire you so much :) I listen to a lot of O.When’s songs on a regular basis! I would be so honored to have the opportunity to work with him someday!

HAYUN: Baekhyun's voice was a great comfort to me when I was struggling, and I really admire him as an artist, and I want to be an artist who can leave that kind of impressions to people. I really like Yura as a solo singer. She has a really charming voice, and she always tries to write lyrics with a lot of depth, which I think is really amazing. It would be an honor to collaborate with her.

As artists and performers, the members continuously work toward becoming better and be better at their craft, with all of the members talking about wanting to try their hand at participating in writing lyrics for their group songs.

RAINIE: I haven't tried working on a song yet, but I'd love to if I ever get the chance.

NAHYUN: I think it would be too much of a challenge for me to do it alone without the members. When time goes by, I'm more advanced than I am now. I want to create the stories I want to tell and share them with my fans.

RUBY: I haven't written by myself yet, but I participated in the song 'Comely' and 'Play.’ I think it was a big challenge for me because it was my first time!

HAYUN: Songwriting is something I'm always working on. I even tried writing some top lines for the songs on this album, although they didn't get accepted. I hope people will like my songs a lot when I sing them someday.

As a relatively young group, the members have an aspiration that they look forward to which is something that drives them to work hard and become better. For PRIMROSE, like most K-pop groups, they wish to get the coveted music show win in South Korea and to be able to perform for their fans all over the globe with a world tour. Dreams that they will surely achieve in no time!

RAINIE: Of course, I want to be number one in eumbang! I also want to tour internationally.

NAHYUN: I'm dreaming of the moment when my members and I win the number one spot on eumbang, and I want to share that joy with our fans!

RUBY: My current goal is to get my music number one on eumbang and on the top of the charts! I want to keep working hard and get one step closer to my dream.

HAYUN: We want to make a mark on our fans around the world with our unique charm, and we hope that many people will remember us through our performances.

On track to their dreams, let us be the catalysts of their success by being part of their journey. With that, we can start by supporting their upcoming new album ‘Steal Heart’.

The girls poured their heart and soul into every note, every move, and every talent to make this comeback be. On that note, the members were asked which song from the album was the most sentimental to them.

RAINIE: I love the title track, “Steal Heart,” but I'm really attached to the song “Feel It,” which I'm so excited about, and the fans have really taken a special liking to it, so it means a lot more to me.

NAHYUN: The title song of this album means a lot to us, and although the process of preparing it was hard, it made us happy and made us stronger as a group. We hope our fans can feel that, and we want to convey our sincere feelings through this activity.

RUBY: For me ‘Steal heart’ :) ♥ From the first time I heard it, I knew this had to be the title.This should be the title! This was the first song that made me feel like, it's a song that is so dear to me. I really hope this song will be loved by many people and I would appreciate it if you continue to take a listen!

HAYUN: I personally love track 5, 'Feel It'. It's special enough to me that I pushed for it to be the title track from the beginning. Unfortunately, it didn't make the cut, but I think it has a strong hook from the intro, and I think it can be performed in a variety of ways. Of course, 'Steal Heart' is also very dear to me.

The stage is set, and they’re about to show the world how they would be stealing our hearts!
