Introduction

Above Ordinary Music Group or AOMG, is an independent and prominent South Korean hip-hop & R&B label and artist management company, originated from the “Art of Movement”, a Seattle-based B-Boying group of which founder singer, songwriter & rapper Jay Park joined in 2003. Jay Park founded the label in late September of 2013, initally signing composer Jun Goon, singer & producer Gray and Seattle affiliate Cha Cha Malone, who was a producer and dancer of Jay Park’s dance crew “Art of Movement”.

The label had its launch party on October 10, 2013, at “The A” in Seoul with Ben Baller as the host. The same month, the label released its first album, Gray’s mini-album, Call Me Gray.

Artists Elo, Loco, Ugly Duck, DJ Wegun, DJ Pumkin, and Hoody joined AOMG over the next two years.

In March 2014, Simon Dominic announced that he had joined AOMG as co-CEO several months after his departure from his former label Amoeba Culture.

In January 2016, South Korean media company CJ E&M, under the parent organization CJ ENM, announced that it had formed a strategic partnership with AOMG. CJ E&M said in a statement that it would “support” AOMG with distribution and marketing, while AOMG would continue to control its music.

In July 2018, Simon Dominic announced his resignation from his position as co-CEO with his song “Me No Jay Park”. It was later clarified by AOMG that Dominic would remain as an artist on the label.

In August 2019, AOMG’s first hip-hop audition show "Signhere" began airing on MBN, marking the first ever hip-hop and R&B record label to have their own audition program on broadcast television. The show lasted 10 episodes, with singer-songwriter Sogumm winning the audition and subsequently joining AOMG as an official label member.

Moreover, the company has continuously expanded its scope of business to sports management by signing with a UFC Fighter; ‘Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung.

The company has become significant not only in hip-hop scene but also in extensive music industry with the diversity of captivating music and related content. AOMG also proved itself as a global brand by the success of multiple concerts, world tour, and a variety of events not just in domestic market but also in international market.
