As BLACKPINK entered the 7th year of their contract with agency YG Entertainment, contract renewal emerged as a major concern in the K-pop market. A brokerage firm even issued a report saying that "smooth progress is expected." However, according to Munhwa Ilbo's coverage, YG Entertainment's renewal procedures with BLACKPINK isn't going smoothly as all four members have risen tremendously as global stars.
An industry insider familiar with the overseas market said, "I know that Lisa, who has an absolute influence in her hometown of Thailand and the Southeast Asian market, has been offered a guarantee of 100 billion won ($81M) in China and other countries. Considering the size of the market, this would be difficult to handle."
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK's current world tour is expected to end in June. It is just two months before the expiration of the members' contracts.
