BLACKPINK (블랙핑크; stylized as BLΛƆKPIИK) is an internationally acclaimed South Korean girl group formed under YG Entertainment. The group has four members Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé. They debuted on August 8, 2016 with their digital single album "SQUARE ONE" and immediately rose to be one of the most well-known and loved artists of their generation.
BLACKPINK's debut was highly anticipated as they were YG Entertainment's second girl group after 2NE1. Most of the members were also well known among fans when they were still trainees—Jennie having featured in her labelmates' songs and music videos, Lisa being a well-known Thai trainee, and Jisoo appearing as an actress in several music videos and tv shows.
At the time of its release, their song "DDU-DU DDU-DU" was the most-viewed Korean music video in the first 24 hours on YouTube, and in January 2019, it became the most viewed music video by a K-pop group on the website. The former record was broken by their video for "How You Like That" in June 2020, which also became the most viewed YouTube video in the first 24 hours.
