INFINITE is a South Korean boy band formed by Woollim Entertainment. The group made their official debut in June 2010 with seven members: Sunggyu, Dongwoo, Hoya, L, Sungyeol, Woohyun, and Sungjong. The group became known for their sharp synchronization in dancing and distinct music style that mostly infuses retro and pop.
In August 2017, all of the members' exclusive contracts with Woollim Entertainment reached their expiration. All chose to renew except for Hoya, leaving INFINITE with six members.
By August 2019, L decided not to renew his contract with Woollim Entertainment, but promised to be there for the members when they need him. Over the years, each member left the agency one by one—with Woohyun being the last member to leave the agency in 2022. As the members pursued different paths and fulfilled their mandatory military service, they stood firm that the group hasn't disbanded yet and they will reunite in the near future.
On May 2023, rumors surfaced that the group established their own agency 'INFINITE Company," with leader Kim Sunggyu being the company representative. Subsequently, INFINITE launched new social media accounts and revealed a 'coming soon' video, signalling their return on June 9, 2023—just in time for the group's 13th anniversary.
On May 6, INFINITE opened new official social media accounts for the group, annnouncing a YouTube broadcast on June 9 to celebrate INFINITE’s 13th debut anniversary with all six members. It was later revealed that leader Sung Kyu had set up INFINITE Company and transfered the rights for the trademarks of the group name, their fandom name, and 2017 concert titles from Woollim to his new company.
