BABYMONSTER's Debut MV "Batter Up" Breaks 40 Million Views, Proving their Monster Rookie Status

YG Entertainment hit three consecutive home runs including 2NE1, BlackPink, and BabyMonster.

The group BabyMonster enjoyed explosive popularity with their debut song, and continued to be a successful member of YG Entertainment's (hereinafter YG) girl group.

As of the afternoon of November 29, the music video for BabyMonster's debut song "BATTER UP" exceeded 40 million views on YouTube, a video site. This is a 61 hour feat since it was released at midnight on the 27th.

The success of "BATTER UP" was predicted early. After going straight to the top of the list of videos that soared in popularity right after its release, it became the most viewed video in 24 hours. The number of views recorded in 24 hours reached a whopping 22.59 million. This is a new record for music videos for K-pop group debut songs.

What is noteworthy is that it is not just a flash of popularity, but continues to rise explosively. According to an official YouTube announcement on the 29th, "BATTER UP" topped the global YouTube daily popular music video chart after being released, and won the throne for two consecutive days.

The trend of increasing the number of subscribers to the official channel is also unusual. BabyMonster attracted more than 270,000 people in just two days in terms of the number of subscribers as well as the number of views on the music video, surpassing 3.6 million in total.

BabyMonster has proved three consecutive big hits in YG girl groups, following the popularity formula of 2NE1 (debuted in 2009) and BLACKPINK (debuted in 2016), which have been considered YG's leading musicians in both music and music video categories. In addition to YG's unique swaggering beat, YG's explosive sound in the second half, cool singing of the vocal line, speedy rapping, colorful music video sets, visual beauty, and disciplined group dance.

It also hit big hits on major global music charts. "BATTER UP" entered the iTunes Top 50 chart in the U.S., the world's largest pop market, for the first time as a debut song released this year. It is an extremely unusual achievement for a rookie singer.

BabyMonster topped the iTunes song chart in 21 countries as well as the United States. It also topped the music video charts of Japan's largest music streaming site, such as Line Music and China's QQ Music.
