BTS Transforms Into Minions in "Despicable Me 4" Merchandise

Universal Pictures released the news of the collaboration between the animated movie "Despicable Me 4" and the group BTS on the 19th.

"Despicable Me 4" is the fourth sequel to the "Despicable Me" series, which surpassed $4.6 billion in cumulative box office revenue to rank No. 1 in the history of the animation franchise. In this work, it depicts a blockbuster in which the Gru family, which has risen in ability due to the birth of Agent Minions and Gru Jr., who have stepped away from the villainous act and become the AVL dedicated to villains, is trying to prevent villain Maxim, who escaped from prison due to revenge against Gru.

The collaboration is a mega global project with production companies Illumination, Universal Product and Experience, and Big Hit Music to commemorate the theatrical release of the movie "Despicable Me 4" and the new appearance of the BTS-loving fan Army and aspiring villain, Poppy.

With the launch of the limited product capsule collection based on collaborative art inspired by the iconic outfits of BTS' single "Permission to Dance," released in 2021, the company will open "BTS ♥ Despicable Me 4" pop-up stores in Los Angeles, Seoul, and Tokyo to meet fans around the world.

The limited product capsule collection, which can be pre-ordered online at Weverse Shop in the U.S. from 19th to July 1st, consists of various categories of clothing and accessories such as T-shirts, hoodies, training clothes, and tote bags, and is made of Minions characters that embody BTS members, adding to the speciality.

The collaboration product will also be sold at the "BTS ♥ Despicable Me 4" pop-up store, starting with Los Angeles, Seoul in Korea, and Tokyo in Japan, and is also set to be launched at U.S. fashion distribution company Nordstrom and fashion brand Urban Outfitters stores and online. On top of that, the Funko Pop! 7-pack set, which is exclusively sold on Entertainment Earth, will also be available for pre-order starting on the 21st, drawing keen attention from fans around the world.

In line with the launch of the collaboration product, the pop-up stores in Los Angeles, Seoul and Tokyo are expected to have various events to enjoy the collaboration between "Despicable Me 4" and BTS, including the limited product capsule collection, an experience zone that reproduces the space of Poppy characters in the movie that fans can experience in person, and the BTS Minions character theme.

Meanwhile, 'Despicable Me 4' will be released on July 24.
