SEVENTEEN's Wonwoo And His Past Comments About SNSD Resurface Amid Seungkwan's IG Post Defending Idols

SEVENTEEN's Wonwoo And His Past Comments About SNSD Resurface Amid Seungkwan's IG Post Defending Idols

On the 29th, SEVENTEEN member Seungkwan posted a lengthy message on Instagram saying, Being a celebrity is not a job where one has to endure until they're on the brink of death. I hope people don't look down on idols; I wish you would stop giving wounds for which you can't take responsibility.

Other SEVENTEEN members left comments in support of Seungkwan's post, including Wonwoo, who said, "I hope the world becomes filled with warmth...", which has sparked criticism from some netizens who brought up his issue of posting hate comments about other idols in the past.

Previously, Wonwoo was embroiled in a controversy after netizens discovered his malicious comments about the girl group Girls' Generation (SNSD). When he was in sixth grade, he posted several times in an online forum with insulting words about the girl group's appearances and characters, edited images of them, and wrote harsh criticisms calling the group trash of the music industry.

In response to the backlash he has faced for these negative SNSD comments, Wonwoo posted a handwritten apology in 2016. At that time, he expressed I thought of the stars on TV lightly and never imagined that the words I casually threw out could hurt someone.

Netizens who knew of this previous issue were quick to show their cold reactions to Wonwoo's comment on Seungkwan's post. Some even commented that Wonwoo contributed to the absence of warmth, He doesn't have the right to say such things, and If he's truly reflecting, he shouldn't be stepping forward like this.

On the other hand, some netizens expressed opposing views and showed support for both Seungkwan and Wonwoo, with comments like This is excessive criticism for something he did when he was immature and He even posted an apology already, so stop harassing him.

  • I'm not saying that what he did was right but are we really dragging back out a post he made in 6th grade all the way to now? The point of growing up is that you mature and change.
  • Imagine someone like Wonwoo saying that.
  • I find Wonwoo the funniest... he was the one leaving hate comments
  • I mean, when we were chodings, wasn't it normal to just hate a celebrity for no particular reason...
  • Wonwoo-yah, I'm still mad at the comments you wrote about my bias......
  • 6th grade... just move on, guys, jeez..
  • It's been so long, and what does it have to do with this situation?
  • If you're going to hate on him for this, I doubt any of you have a clean digital footprint either. It's okay to have said something wrong in the past as long as you've reflected and grown out of it.
  • The lengths fangirls will go to defend someone... 6th graders usually know what's right and wrong by that age
  • Both things can be true, that yes, he was young when he made those comments, but he still made those comments in the end

Meanwhile, the 'HYBE Internal Documents' with dehumanizing criticisms of other K-pop idols have recently been revealed, which has caused intense backlash from the public. Seungkwan, who took to Instagram amid the HYBE controversies, wrote a message to defend idols and his post is currently a hot topic on various online communities and social media sites, with
