"Not True" — BIGHIT MUSIC Refutes Plagiarism Accusations Against Jungkook's 'Seven'

On August 22nd, according to Xports News Korea, BIGHIT Music refuted plagiarism accusations thrown against BTS Jungkook's hit song 'Seven,' saying, "The allegation of copyright infringement related to Jungkook's 'Seven' is not true."

The agency explained, "'Seven' is a song made by 5 foreign composers in collaboration, and it is a creation that has nothing to do with the song recorded in the domestic album 24 years ago, which some claim. We would like to inform you that this is only a one-sided argument that does not meet any criteria, such as practical similarity and legality, which are the criteria for judging plagiarism."

Earlier today, a local media outlet published a report claiming that Jungkook's 'Seven' borrowed the main part of Fin.KL's "Time of Mask" released in 2000.

According to reports, composer Yang Joon Young, who participated in the composition of 'Time of Mask', allegedly sent explanatory materials including sound sources and musical scales to major HYBE producers 'A' and others.

Meanwhile, Korean netizens commented:

  • There was a controversy?
  • I'm glad they fixed it right away.
  • It's not similar at all. Listen carefully and judge for yourself.
  • Honestly, it's not even similar at all. There is no similarity in even a single verse.
  • It feels so forced. No matter how many times I listened to them, it doesn't sound similar at all.
  • Honestly, Se7en’s composers are foreigners, but a Fin.K.L song from 24 years ago.. Does it make sense to plagiarize a song even Koreans don’t know about?
  • Where is the similarity? Hahahaha
  • There's nothing to lose from that composer's point of view. Their original song will be marketed, and if they get to prove it, they can get a huge profit.
  • Plagiarism is bad enough to damage your image just by being used in a title. Shouldn't those who falsely accuse plagiarism be legally punished?
  • Huh? It's two completely different songs?
  • I'm surprised because they're not similar at all.
  • I didn't know there was a plagiarism controversy hahaha
  • I'm not a fan but the songs are so different that it's funny.
  • It is a completely different song. This is ridiculous hahahaha
  • But seriously, it's so different that I'm surprised.
