On the 13th, the Gyeonggi Northern Police applied for an arrest warrant against "A", an AfreecaTV streamer (also called Broadcast Jockey or "BJ") on charges of blackmail and extortion. According to police, after meeting Junsu in 2019, "A" recorded their private conversations and intimate audio during sexual intercourse. She has been accused of threatening to distribute the recordings on social media and extorting around 840 Million KRW in exchange for not doing so, and this has been happening from September 2020 up until last month.
"A" was investigated for committing the crime and using the extorted money for drug-related activities. Since then, "A" is currently on trial for a drug-related case at the Seoul Central District Court. However, netizens continued to raise suspicions about the alleged recordings, that they might have contained inappropriate content since Junsu paid a lot of money to stop "A" from posting them.
- I wonder what he said in the recording that he's been blackmailed out of so much??? Kind of curious.
- Why'd he give her money if he had nothing to hide? Just because he slept with her??
- Now he's out of money, out of image... this is why men should always be careful of how they handle their bottom there. He has so much experience in the industry, he should know better.
- I can't imagine how dirty the recording was that he gave up 800 million won over 5 years, tsk tsk tsk
- That's kind of sad... a top star like him with a streamer
- I get that he's a victim but.... why.... is all of TVXQ like this except for Changmin?
- At this point, it's probably safer to just assume that any man is getting with these prostitutes. Yes, the blackmailer is in the wrong for what she did, but this really puts him in a new image.
- If it was just sex, why did he let her drag him around for 800 million won? Especially when it's just an audio recording and not a video.. better yet, why didn't he just report her in the first place?
- He saw Yunho lose his image the same way and still didn't learn anything from it
- I don't like Kim Junsu and don't really care about him, but he's indeed the victim here. But on the other hand, I think it's only natural that his image as a celebrity is tarnished
Palmtree Island, Junsu's agency, shared an additional statement regarding the controversy in response to the negative reactions from netizens. The agency also reiterated that the drug-related case of "A" and Junsu's blackmail-extortion case are unrelated, and they are requesting that netizens stop with their unjust criticism and secondary harm towards him.
Junsu also addressed the controversy by posting a message on Fromm,
I've been harassed for five years and I couldn't take it anymore. I should have done it sooner... But I'm confident that I did nothing wrong; I thought of this as my mistake and I haven't met people ever since this happened five years ago since we'll only know what kind of intention they're approaching us with when it happens.Junsu also mentioned that there were at least six other victims of "A", which pushed him to finally take legal action to prevent further damage not only to himself but to others as well.
Meanwhile, Junsu recently held a concert with Kim Jaejoong as the duo JX, who left TVXQ together and was recently active as JYJ. Junsu will be back on the musical stage for 'Aladdin' starting on November 22nd.
