Melanie is a Korean-American singer who gained prominence as a member of the Korean pop girl group Chocolat.
At a young age, Melanie moved to Hawaii, United States, where she lived with her parents for a brief year and a half. It was during this time that her passion for music began to take shape. At the age of 12, Melanie caught the attention of Paramount Entertainment, where she became a trainee. Interestingly, it was Tia, a colleague who would also join ChoColat, who recommended Melanie to the company’s CEO. Melanie’s hard work and dedication paid off when she made her debut with ChoColat, showcasing her talents as a vocalist, rapper, lead dancer, and the group’s youngest member (Maknae).
Following Jaeyoon’s departure, Melanie stepped up as the main vocalist. Unfortunately, ChoColat faced challenges that led to its eventual disbandment. Factors such as financial struggles, communication gaps between the company and the group, and a lack of cohesive concepts contributed to this outcome.
She leads a normal life in Hawaii alongside her family. In 2016, she married Matt Murphy, and together they have two daughters: Ayala (born in 2020) and Emilia (born in 2024). Melanie’s pursuit of education led her to study health services management in college.
