FIFTY FIFTY is a South Korean girl group formed under the label ATTRAKT. They made their debut on November 18, 2022, with the mini album “THE FIFTY.” The group’s name symbolizes a ‘50:50’ probability, representing the balance between ‘ideal’ and ‘reality.’ The group initially consisted of four members.
The group received critical acclaim, with the music critic magazine IZM awarding it a 4.5 out of 5-star rating, the highest for any girl group at the time. The group was also recognized by the Grammys as one of the ten girl groups to watch in 2023, predicted to significantly influence the K-pop industry’s sound and aesthetics.
Their first comeback single “The Beginning: Cupid” became a global hit, especially after “Cupid (Twin ver)” went viral on TikTok. It quickly climbed international charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart, setting records for a K-pop act’s rapid rise to fame. The song’s widespread success was amplified by chart-topping positions in multiple countries and a remix featuring Sabrina Carpenter. On April 25, 2023, it was announced that ATTRAKT had established a strategic partnership with Warner Records to promote FIFTY FIFTY in the United States.
In June 2023, Aran went on hiatus to recover from surgery. Shortly after, ATTRAKT revealed issues of “outside forces” poaching the group. This was later on identified to be ATTRAKT’s partner, The Givers, trying to get the group to join Warner Music Korea effectively violating the group’s contract.
Later on, FIFTY FIFTY sued ATTRAKT to cancel their contracts, citing agreement breaches and reputation damage. By August, talks failed, leading back to court. On October 23, ATTRAKT officially ended their exclusive agreements with Saena, Sio, and Aran, effective from October 19 while member, Keena, withdrew her appeal for injunction. The following day, the Seoul High Court dismissed an appeal from the three artists to suspend their contracts.
ATTRAKT announced Keena’s upcoming appearance at the Billboard Music Awards on October 29 and hinted at a strategic makeover for FIFTY FIFTY. By February 8, they started reorganizing the group with Keena. The new members are set to be unveiled in April, ahead of their September comeback. On March 11, 2024, it was reported that the police won’t be prosecuting the complaint against ATTRAKT’s CEO made by ex-members of FIFTY FIFTY.
On August 4, 2024 it was announced that ATTRAKT would be renaming FIFTY FIFTY's fandom name to TWENY.
From August 8 to August 12, 2024, four new members were revealed: Chanelle Moon, Yewon, Hana and Athena.
On October 15 2024, it was announced that former members Sio, Aran, and Saena would be joining the label Massive E&C (a sub label of NS ENM) and would be re-debuting as ablume.
