Heechul (희철) is a South Korean singer, rapper, actor, radio DJ, songwriter and MC under SM Entertainment. He is a member of the boy group SUPER JUNIOR and its sub-unit SUPER JUNIOR-T. He is also part of the project group, M&D along with TraxX's Jungmo and the duo Universe Cowards with BUZZ' Kyunghoon.
He was originally placed in a four-member group called 'Four Seasons' along with TVXQ's Yunho and Jaejoong and future bandmate Kangin. The group was dropped pre-debut due to Yunho and Jaejoong joining TVXQ. He was later preparing to debut as the main vocalist of rock band TRAXX, but due to frequent clashes and misunderstandings with the people in charge of SM Entertainment at the time, he left Seoul and returned to his hometown in Gangwon Province.
He first made his acting debut in 2004 in the TV drama "Sharp 2" with labelmates Go Ara and future bandmate Kibum.
He is mostly known for hosting variety shows such as Knowing Brothers, Weekly Idol, Lipstick Prince, and A Style for You.
His androgynous appearance has caused rumors regarding his sexuality since his debut, being known for having a "pretty boy" look. He never denied being gay because he believes that, quote, "It'd be rude if I denied it so strongly." Heechul has also openly expressed his support for the LGBTQ+ community.
In 2017, he said, quote, "I'm not gay, I like women. But I realised that if I say I'm not (gay) and vehemently deny it, it's rude and hurtful to people who are actually gay. It's just a matter of preference, and it's just that everyone is different with different values. I decided I don't care even if people who have prejudices about me think that way".
