Jay, formerly known as Jinhwan, is the leader, main vocalist and lead dancer of the boy group iKON, He's also a solo singer and musical theater actor. Jinhwan was born in Jeju Island but during middle school, he moved to the Philippines for 7 months, where he learned Filipino and English. She initially began vocal training at SM Academy.
In 2011, he joined YG Entertainment after auditioning with a showcase of all his skills in singing, dancing and rapping. After passing the audition, he participated in the survival show "W.I.N: Who is Next" where he was a member of the B Team. In 2014, he was one of the members confirmed as part of iKON, debuting on September 15, 2015. Since his debut, he was praised for his stage skills and was even multiple times named as Taeyang's successor.
Michael Jackson is his role model. He is a big fan of artists like Usher, SE7EN, SHINee, and BIGBANG. His sister is a big fan of idols and coming from a family full of musicians, that was his inspiration to become a singer. He is also interested in languages and has played many sports, currently, he is interested in golf and surf.
Since 2019, since the departure of the former leader, he became iKON's leader. The announcement was confirmed in 2023 through the website JX Entertainment, his solo agency in Japan, where he is assigned the role of iKON's leader. The members have revealed that he is the person who sacrifices his own emotions the most for others' emotions so they consider him the mood-setter in the group. In 2022 in his profile update on iKON Youtube channel he was recognized as "the leader". He is also in charge of stage management and visuals for iKON.
In addition to being part of 143 Entertainment, in 2023 he signed as a solo artist at JX Entertainment and created his own fan club in Japan and has a character named JIU.
In 2023 he made his debut with the release of the 5-song LP "BLUE MOON" making his way into the Krnb. On July 20, 2023 he temporarily retired to fulfill his mandatory military service in Korea.
