ATEEZ Makes History as First K-pop Act to Perform at Mawazine

Mawazine, a prestigious Moroccan international music festival, announced ATEEZ as part of its lineup in June 2024. They are the first K-pop act to perform at Mawazine.

ATEEZ debuted in 2018 with the track ‘Pirate King’ and a music video filmed in Morocco’s Sahara desert.

More recently, they dominated the Sahara stage as the first K-pop male idol group to perform at the 2024 Coachella.

ATEEZ makes history once again with the announcement of the group as part of Mawazine’s lineup. They will perform on the OLM Souissi stage on June 23, 2024.

Mawazine was established in 2001 and organized by Maroc Cultures Association under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the King of Morocco. Over the last few years, the festival has attracted as many as 2.5 million spectators. Mawazine ranks as the second major world music festival and the first major music festival on the African continent.

Many big names in the music industry have graced the Mawazine stage over the years, including Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Rihanna, Kanye West, and many more.

The 2024 Mawazine is extra-special as it is the festival’s comeback after its ‘hiatus’ during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a Morocco World News article after ATEEZ’s performance at Coachella, it was written that many Moroccan fans were excited about having ATEEZ come to Mawazine, even before the lineup was announced.

“Moroccan fans are actively using social media campaigns and petitions to amplify their voices. According to Ateez’s main Moroccan fan page, hashtags such as #ATEEZchartinginMOROCCO and #ATEEZforMorocco have ranked 5th on X (formerly Twitter).”

“With Ateez being the most requested artists for Mawazine on various platforms, the fan page recently revealed their ongoing efforts to highlight the importance of having K-pop artists performing in Morocco. This includes launching an online petition advocating for Ateez’s presence in this year’s festival lineup.”

“Fans from around the globe have also expressed their readiness to visit Morocco if Ateez is invited to take the Mawazine stage, drawn by the unique opportunity to explore the country where the artistic journey of their beloved group began.”

ATEEZ is currently preparing for their comeback with ‘Golden Hour’ on May 30 and a tour across North America starting on July. Before leaving for the tour, the members will first host a fanmeeting ‘ATINY'S VOYAGE : FROM A TO Z’ at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul on July 6 and 7.
