Stray Kids (also known as SKZ) is an eight-member boy group under JYP Entertainment. They were formed through the competition reality show of the same name and debuted on March 25, 2018, with the mini album "I am NOT".
Prior to their debut, they released a mini album, "Mixtape", on January 8, 2018, with the title track "Hellevator".
Stray Kids officially debuted on March 25, 2018, with "I am NOT" and its title track "District 9". The group then shortly announced its fandom name, STAY, on August 1st, which was only a few days before their first comeback on August 6, 2018, with the title track "My Pace" from their second mini album titled "I am WHO". Finally, they released "I am YOU" on October 22, 2018, ending their "I Am" trilogy. The three mini albums were all released in less than a year and are all part of the same narrative cycle revolving around the theme of identity and self-discovery.
On October 28, 2019, JYPE announced that Woojin had left the group due to personal circumstances. After Woojin left, the group released the music video for "Astronaut," their first single as an eight-member group on November 13, 2019.
At the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards, it was announced that Stray Kids would be participating in the Mnet survival show Kingdom: Legendary War. On May 28, 2021, the group released a song for the final round of the competition titled "WOLFGANG ", which marked the group's first appearance on the main Gaon Digital Chart at number 138. They won the program on June 3, 2021, earning them their own reality show and a Kingdom Week special show for their comeback.
On February 10, 2022, it was announced that Stray Kids signed with Republic Records for promotions in the United States as part of JYP Entertainment's strategic partnership with the label. After this strategic partnership, Stray Kids proceeded to become the first group to earn five consecutive number-one albums in Billboard history.
On October 20, 2023, Stray Kids became the first and only fourth-generation K-pop group to receive the Korean Popular Culture Arts and Awards, joining the ranks of only six other groups who have achieved this feat. They also made history by becoming the first and only K-pop group ever to attend the Met Gala. They were invited on behalf of Tommy Hilfiger and wore outfits from the brand.
On July 23, 2024, Stray Kids released the song "Slash" as part of the OST for the 2024 film "Deadpool & Wolverine".
