Seo Taiji and Boys (Korean: 서태지와 아이들; Japanese: ソ・テジと少年たち) is an iconic South Korean boy group that was active from 1992-1996. Formed by Seo Taiji, the group also included Yang Hyun Suk and Lee Juno. Seo Taiji and Boys released experimental music and presented styles that resonated with the younger generation, catapulting them into stardom and eventually leading them to become one of the most influential South Korean acts of all time. In addition, the group is also credited for contributing to the development of Korean Pop music and culture.
Moreover, Seo Taiji and The Boys is also recognized for pioneering the use of rap in Korean Pop music and utilizing music to address social and government issues. They particularly focused on addressing the harrowing education system in South Korea, inspiring students all over the country to make a stand. The group's activities and music releases eventually became the catalyst for abolishing the censorship of South Korean lyrics.
The group disbanded in 1996, and the members have gone separate ways since then. The leader, Seo Taiji, retired but soon returned to pursue a solo career. Lee Juno stayed out of the limelight but made headlines again after being sentenced to prison upon being found guilty of fraud and sexual assault. Meanwhile, over the years, Yang Hyun Suk established the music agency YG Entertainment which is known for producing globally popular groups such as BIGBANG, 2NE1, and BLACKPINK.
