Kim Hyoyeon is a South Korean dancer, rapper, singer-songwriter, DJ, and composer under SM Entertainment. She is best known as the main rapper and one of the main dancers of the girl group Girls' Generation. She is also a member of its second sub-unit, Girls' Generation-Oh!GG. As a DJ, she goes by the stage name HYO.
Hyoyeon's formal dance training began in elementary school; she learned hip hop, jazz, and Latin dance at her neighborhood's hip-hop school.
At 11 years old, she auditioned for SM Entertainment through SM's 2000 Casting System. Then, in 2004, she, alongside Super Junior's Siwon, was sent to Beijing to study Chinese.
Before debuting with Girls' Generation, she worked with Janet Jackson and was BoA's silhouette dancer during a performance at Mnet Km Music Video Festival 2005.
She eventually debuted as a member of the girl group Girls' Generation in August 2007, which went on to become one of the best-selling artists in South Korea and one of South Korea's most popular girl groups worldwide. She made her solo debut on December 2, 2016, with the digital single "Mystery."
