ENHYPEN is a seven-member boy group formed by Belift Lab through the reality competition show I-LAND. The group debuted on November 30, 2020, with their first mini album, Border: Day One. The group's name symbolizes connection and growth, reflecting how hyphens link words to create new meanings.
The final lineup of ENHYPEN was revealed on September 18, 2020, during the I-LAND finale. Six members were selected by global viewers, while Sunoo was chosen by producer Bang Si Hyuk and a panel of directors, including Son Sung Deuk, DOOBU, Pdogg, and Wonderkid. Unlike traditional K-pop groups, ENHYPEN does not assign official positions to its members, aside from the leader, to ensure each member develops skills across all roles.
On July 6, 2021, ENHYPEN debuted in Japan with the single Border: Hakanai. The release featured "Forget Me Not," the opening theme for the anime Re-Main, as well as Japanese versions of "Given-Taken" and "Let Me In (20 Cube)." On January 16, 2022, the group expanded their storytelling with the launch of Dark Moon: The Blood Altar, a fictional webtoon series inspired by their concept.
On October 9th, they announced Engene as their offiial fandom name.
