Dreamcatcher is a seven-member girl group under Dreamcatcher Company (formerly known as Happyface Entertainment). They debuted on January 13, 2017 with the single "Nightmare".
They were originally known as MINX with members JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon, and Dami, which debuted in 2014 with the single album Why Did You Come to My Home?. In November 16, Happyface Entertainment announced that the group will be disbanding and re-debuted under their current name with two new members: Handong and Gahyeon.
A Dream Catcher is an artifact used in Native American culture. It's main structure consists of a handmade willow hoop with threads net which resembles a spider's web. The primary use of a Dream Catcher is to ward off nightmares if hung near a bed before going to sleep.
In Dreamcatcher's story and lore, each member represent a different nightmare or fear. JiU represents the nightmare of being chased by a stranger (Diokophobia), SuA represents the nightmare of being tied (Merinthophobia), Siyeon represents the nightmare of being locked in a narrow space (Claustrophobia), Handong represents the nightmare of being observed (Scopophobia), Yoohyeon represents the nightmare of being lost in an unknown place (Mazeophobia), Dami represents the nightmare of pain or getting hurt (Agliophobia), and finally, Gahyeon represents the nightmare of falling from a high place (Basophobia).
