Jung Hoseok, known under his stage name j-hope, is a South Korean dancer, rapper, singer-songwriter, producer, and composer under Big Hit Entertainment and HYBE Labels. He is best known as one of the main dancers and the rapper of the worldwide sensational boy group BTS.
j-hope took dancing classes at Gwangju Music Academy and became a part of an underground dance team called "Neuron" in which he went by the name Smile Hoya. Finding inspiration in G-Dragon and Beenzino, j-hope initially auditioned for JYP Entertainment but ultimately became part of Big Hit Entertainment. Eventually, j-hope debuted as a member of the group BTS; a boy group that went on to grow as a worldwide phenomenon. With passion and ceaseless efforts, j-hope became one of the most sought after artists of his generation.
j-hope released his first solo mixtape, "Hope World" in 2018, and became the highest-charting Korean soloist at the time on Billboard 200.
j-hope’s single “Chicken Noodle Soup (feat. Becky G)”, released in 2019 became his first solo entry on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. With the song he became the third South Korean soloist overall to enter the chart.
j-hope released his first official solo album, ”Jack In The Box” in 2022. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 Chart and the album’s two main tracks ”MORE” and ”Arson” both debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Shortly after the album was released, he also became the first South Korean artist to headline a main stage at a major U.S. music festival ”Lollapalooza”.
His second official solo album ‘HOPE ON THE STREET VOL.1’ debuted at no. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. With this, j-hope became the first South Korean artist to have multiple albums chart in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart.
