SEVENTEEN, often shortened as SVT, is a thirteen-member boy group under Pledis Entertainment. They made their official debut on May 26, 2015, with the mini album 17 Carat.
They have three units: Vocal, Hip-Hop, and Performance. The vocal unit comprises Woozi, Joshua, DK, Jeonghan, and Seungkwan. On the other hand, the hip-hop unit consists of S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, and Vernon. And lastly, the performance unit with members Hoshi, Jun, The8, and Dino. SEVENTEEN's name is said to be derived from "13 members + 3 units + 1 group," expressing how thirteen individuals from three different sub-units come together to form one powerful group.
SEVENTEEN is known for being a self-producing group, with Woozi being the main producer of their songs and Hoshi often leading the creation of choreographies. In addition, the members also participate in various aspects of the music, performance, and album preparations.
Before making their official debut, the group was introduced through the online show "Seventeen TV" in 2012. During the show, there were no fixed members yet and all the cast members were trainees within the average age of seventeen. Throughout five seasons, the trainees showcased their skills and personalities—earning them a considerable fanbase and amping up the anticipation for their debut. However, following the show's conclusion, the group continued to train for years. They also underwent reorganization, involving some trainees' departure and addition.
After years of anticipation, the group finally made their official debut as a thirteen-member group on May 26, 2015, with the mini-album 17 Carat, with the title track Adore U. They were also the first male K-Pop group to debut with a one-hour live showcase on a major broadcasting channel, having been televised by MBC.
Through the years, SEVENTEEN grew into one of the most successful and well-loved artists of their generation, not just in South Korea but also worldwide, with sold-out world tours and record-breaking sales.
